We all know the Kia Optima as a safe, reliable family sedan that offers remarkable value. To augment that reputation, the automaker recently announced the 2021 Kia K5 Sport Sedan — a revised version of the classic designed to appeal to young buyers who crave excitement.
You can choose from among five trim levels — LX, LXS, GT-Line, EX, and GT.
On the outside, it’s clear that the K5 is sportier than the standard Optima. The shark skin-inspired grille and sharp hood accents give the face an imposing look, and the body’s angular contours stretch all the way back to the full-width brake light.
If you opt for the LX, LXS, GT-Line, or EX trim, your K5 will be equipped with a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that puts out 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. If you really want to pump the gas on excitement, upgrade to the GT. This version of the K5 sport sedan features a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine that produces 290 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, ultimately achieving a 0-60 mph time of just 5.8 seconds. The Kia K5 GT is expected to hit showroom floors this fall, while the rest should arrive later this summer.
